So, I got Puck's Delight in the mail yesterday. Yay, so 3 of 4 of the Ruth Thompson statues are mine...mine mine..muahahah.

Oberon's Mistress has to wait til after Christmas, but between that and Puck's Delight, the latter was much harder to find.

~~

Hitting gym today. Hard. Damnit. No sleet. No snow. I don't care. Gym.

~~

Holiday plans are in works, though I am leaving on Wednesday, Dec 23 to go to Maryland. It is still up in the air on whether I'm going to spend NYE and NYD there or not. I'll figure it out in the next week.

~~

Going to work on prologue to novel today. Hopefully it comes out as well as I'm hearing it in my head as I go over parts of it. :)

Between this and the other horror stories I've heard of both Dragon*Con and Origins treating the vendors/guests that attend them, I think I'll stick to GenCon. Yeah, it's not the best out there, but they treat their people well. This is NOT how you treat people who help you put on your show - either volunteers, vendors, guests, or anyone else. Having been a volunteer at numerous cons and shows; you never, EVER treat people the way those people did in that vendor room. Even when I was volunteering the overnight line in freezing rain for Celebration III and was cursed at by people who blamed the volunteers for the bad lines, I never lost my temper, and never told them "Just deal with it or go home." Horrible, horrible customer service.

I adore volunteering. I love doing it at conventions - some of my best moments have been doing it. I loved working Celebration III with the Gen Con crew, and would love to go and volunteer most of Gen Con this year, as long as I could still pull off the GCL Larp. I'm looking into it, because I LOVE helping people at cons. Always have since I started at Farpoint many years ago. And what I read here is some of the worst treatment anyone working a con, be it volunteer or paid, can do to someone else.
~~~~
Thanks joshwasta for the link!
From the main page of http://www.leasticoulddo.com/
"My mood is less than pleased right now, and I’m going to tell you why.
To start things off, Lar and I will NOT be attending DragonCon in Atlanta this coming summer. In order to understand that, we must go back to a time and place…say, around September of this year.
This was our second year in Atlanta, and it was one of the shows we were most looking forward to. There’s just something about the atmosphere of this show that’s so casual, that you really get a chance to hang out with a great deal of wonderful people.
As last year was so successful for us, we paid for a larger booth this year and intended to do some fun & unusual things with the space. Upon getting to the show, however, someone had setup in our space. Confused, we asked the hall attendants what was going on, and were rudely informed that our booth had been moved.
When I inquired as to where, I was shown the furthest and poorly lit section of the room, with a giant pillar intersecting the middle of the booth. I then proceeded to tell the attendants that this was unacceptable, not only because of the move but because of the new location.
Despite the fact that I had announced where we were setup weeks leading up to the show, I would’ve been fine if we were moved to a location similar to the one we lost. But this was unacceptable.
The attendants, once again, were rude and told our crew that we could take the new spot or we could go home. This wasn’t their problem. Still calm and polite, I asked if there was someone else we could speak to, because we did not deserve to be spoken to like that.
A couple hours later, we sat on the carpet waiting, a minor functionary came downstairs and repeated what the attendants had told us. Again, I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to.
An hour later, one of the board members of the show came down to talk with us.
He apologized for the situation, note that this was the first apology we had received thus far, and inquired what could to be done to make things right. In the end, he generously offered to repay us for the booth, but still allow us to use. It was a good solution, we shook hands and all was well.
At the end of the show, I again thanked him for taking care of the matter, and we signed up for the next show gladly.
Usually how this works, is at the end of a show, you sign for the next one, and a few weeks later you receive an invoice. A month passed, and we had yet to receive a single thing.
Wanting to make sure everything was fine, Randy began calling them. For 6 weeks Randy called, at least 3 times per week leaving messages for everyone. No one called us back.
Finally, we reached someone, and were told that we were not invited back to DragonCon because of the incident. I was and still am shocked.
We are not allowed to exhibit because their staff was verbally abusive towards us, including profanity. We are not allowed because they moved our location without any warning or apology. We are not allowed because DragonCon shoved us in the dark corner of the show.
Let me be clear. Never did I, or any of my staff, raise their voice or even mutter a ‘shite’ under their breath. That’s not how we behave.
I don’t understand this decision, and no one was inclined to explain it to me, only referring to the ‘incident’.
I am saddened by this, but more so that we won’t be able to hang out with the folks who came out to Atlanta to see us. I felt you were owed an explanation, and there it is. We hope to be able to find a show nearby that we can attend.
As for DragonCon, I will do my best to ensure that this story gets out, so others don’t share our fate."
Pass it on.
Some of you will probably get them after the New Year and for that I apologize in advance.
I got the third of Ruth Thompson's statues last night on Amazon, due to a gift card that had a balance last year, and one this year that I got for my birthday - total due for a statue that's out of production - ? $1.45.
After Christmas , I hope to pick up the fourth.
No plans tonight, I think I'm keeping it that way.
Weekend musings
First off - Thank you for the birthday wishes on here guys :) I got some on FB as well.
Secondly, the weekend started off kinda crappy. After a fun night hanging over at the Bledsoes and watching The Proposal (cute romantic comedy) and chatting with NW crew, Saturday started off bleh. The new boots I had bought broke upon walking down the stairs so it was an 8 am run to Target, I forgot some things, and just was in a meh mood. And still hurting from PT the night before.
Game really went well for the most part. I enjoyed the RP I got, realized WHY Ilana doesn't talk to a few people (and need to figure out how to stop being terrified of a certain female barbarian who is damn intimidating...) and got to work with a lot of people she normally doesn't work with on puzzling things out. And as usual had a blast with the tribe/lodge crew. They rock in so many ways.
Had some really good personal conversations, and Ilana is going to buy Chikta a ton of new socks ;) (No pink ones!).
Sunday, we had my birthday dinner due to some miscommunication on my end; I got pretty gifts from Sparky (I adore that hairclip!) and J9. Yay! Yay for good times with friends. 14 people..holy crap :)!
I hurt sooooo much yesterday, I took the day off from the gym. Today I'm hoping to get back there.
Quote of the weekend:
"It fizzles...on your crotch."
Lesson learned:
Never go have personal trainer session night before Triumph.
I don't think there is a part of my body that doesn't hurt, and that was before the rough fall I took on the rocks at game. (One rock went straight into my kneecap and my knee is swollen to shit).
99% of game was pure win.
Other 1% was ruined by some asshats who can't follow rules.
I won't let the 1% get in my way.
So let's see:
Supernatural last night. I'm still laughing over parts of it. Nutcracker! "Seriously? Seriously?" And the tandem bike. Ha! Not to mention the commercial.
*snickers* "Only untalented douchebags wear sunglasses at night." "Say we pulled it out of Sam's ass."
(Not to mention firesong_jb's confused text to me at some point.) Hee hee hee.
*snickers*
Anyway for the big reveal - I'm not sure how I feel about it; but well played Kripke. Because thinking back on it, there is very very subtle hints on that being the case. I have to go rewatch a few episodes to confirm; but I'm almost positive the snapping of the fingers was one of them.
I also think it's setting up something in Episode 10; that I've heard Kripke hint on, but there's no major names. However, I think I know now.
Lessee:
Girl Number 9. Why are you not watching this? It's a web show - it's only about 30 minutes total, each episode is somewhere between 3 and 6 minutes. Go. Now. Watch. Be damn impressed.
Episode 4 is the one that had my jaw drop twice in 5 minutes.
I am waiting for episode 6, which is tonight. All of the episodes will be online all month.
Go. Watch. This. Show.
Other than that, need to get ready for game. Wheee!
James Moran, one of my favorite writers from Torchwood (he wrote the hard-hitting Season 2 Sleeper episode, which I still think is one of the best of the whole series, and co-wrote Day 3 for CoE) - has a new web-show starting tonight in the UK.
I'm not sure when we will have access to it here in the states, I hope it's within days.
Anyway, it's called "Girl Number 9" and is a six episode series. It has Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto) in it, and looks good enough that I'm going to definitely give it a check.
Here's some more info on it:
Guardian Commentary
Website: Girl Number 9
The private video that requires a password is more than likely going to be unlocked today at some point - it's the show video. The rest of the website is accessible as far as I've been able to tell.
Obviously I won't see it until Sunday, but I'll watch it then assuming I can access it. I like James Moran, he's a great writer, and Gareth David-Lloyd was wonderful as Ianto.
