Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend  Next Entry
It's rainy, cold, and miserable outside and I'm still feeling the ick. Much better than yesterday, so hopefully it doesn't keep me down for the rest of the weekend. Though if this rain doesn't clear up...*grumbles*

Need to do some emails. Need to contact someone for GCL as well.

So, looks like I will be in Oregon on May 1, 2010. YAY! I wonder if I can get some time off to go hit Seattle and visit friends and Vancouver, just because I've never been there. Hrms...wonder if I can plan that.

And finally -

Leia!

Hippos are kind of terrifying. Yes, they are adorable. But also, given the opportunity, they will eat you. Eat you until you cannot be eaten anymore.

YOU'RE COMING! YAY! (Or at least you're currently planning on coming, and that's worth a yay!) Seattle is about three hours north. Vancouver, BC is more like five, I think. Lots of people say to me, "I heard Vancouver is just over the river from Portland!" And I blink slowly at them and say, "Yes, Vancouver, WASHINGTON. Did you think Canada bent down to skip past all of Washington just to touch Oregon, or did the map in your brain fail you? I mean, Canada is made of awesome, and if they promised to bring us more Macintosh toffee and Molson Canadian we'd let them build a peninsula of country through Washington to touch the amazing city of Portland, sure, but they haven't."

Yes I am and yes, I checked the times, but I figure if I can take extra days, I might be able to pull it off :)

5 hours isn't that much.

Portland is 3 hours south of me, Vancouver is 3 hours and a wait at the border crossing north.

Also, I don't believe you can cross the border to/from Canada without a passport these days, unless you have an enhanced ID (which I believe only border states offer?), though I could be wrong.

... ok, so I swear I just posted AND EDITED a comment here, and it is not present.

Maybe I deleted it by accident? If so, m'bad.

Anyway, to recap, Portland = 3 hours south, Vancouver = 3 hours and a border crossing north, border crossing to/from Canada does for SURE require either a passport or an enhanced ID. (Which I almost just typoed as IUD, heh.)

I need a passport, but if I can pull it off... ;)

Anyway, would you and Dan be up for a quickie visit in May? Probably would only be a day, but hey.

If not, I stay in Oregon :)

Depending on precisely when, I'm reasonably sure we could swing that.
