Mostly good weekend
So; ...Friday night I went out and got a China cabinet I found on Freecycle. Had some help getting it; and now it's settled happily in my apartment. However, if I can't get the smoker's stench out of it I will have to give it away. Arghs! It's very pretty and I DO want to keep it...so I'm trying everything.
Afterwards, joined Jess, Dave, Ruffer, Sparky and Danny for dinner at Elsa's. Had a Bad Juan, and immediately got tipsy-ish. (Ruffner SWEARS I was drunk, I disagree). Had good times, laughed a lot - even if Dave and Jess didn't win the savings race, they came out ahead with a gorgeous new house!
Saturday, got up to run to Indy for the Mavens meeting. We were warning the manager of the new Noodles and Company downtown what to expect for Gen Con.
About 30 miles out of Indy, I feel something thumping and I realize that's not the road. Nope, it's my back passenger tire. Flat. Dead. I get out of the car; and start digging around for my donut, my socket wrench and my car-lifter. I can do this , right? Wrong. Whatever the hell Sears used at the time to put the lugnuts on was rough. So I'm sitting there, all of traffic flying by me, and thinking that if I was this thin, beautiful woman people would be stopping. But ya know. Such is life. I am on the phone with Geico, and they tell me it's going to be an hour for a tow truck. About ready to break into tears at the frustration of everything, a state trooper pulls up. The man was in his off duty car, going to Southern Indy for the day. With his help, I got the tire changed, and he gave me some tips on how to do it next time (I had the tire up too high in the air). (Good looking officer too). I thanked the man profusely and was on my way.
Call up Sears to activate the new card I was keeping for emergencies. DING. Sears canceled my account in April because I hadn't used the card. Um....okay. How come I've talked to Sears on the phone a few times since then (due to being laid off) and no one EVER mentioned this? They swear they sent a letter, but I didn't see it. Found out from Keeper and a few others that Sears has been doing this to a lot of people lately. Citibank apparently runs their financial group now and are canceling accounts for random reasons left and right. I know my mom got her credit cut waaaay down from about 20K to 4K on the card with no notice. Keeper got his card canceled due to nonuse. Etc. BAH!
Get to Sears in Greenwood after the meeting. Find out that I need 4 new tires, not just one. I have them put one on because that's what I can afford; and now am not traveling long distances at all, at least until I get the other back tire replaced. The tread is almost completely gone on that second tire, and the two front ones are dry rotting. ARGHS!
The meeting went well. The manager gave us all free dinner cards for Noodles and Company since we were so helpful. Noodles and Co should do really well at Con, they are going to be open extra hours and have give aways and such (like buy one get one cards they are going to see if they can put at the hotels). Got the money for the dice, and it will go into the bank today. Chessex is going to be at Origins, so they can't get to the order til next week anyway.
Snarked at Ben because I could. Kristi and I made plans to use slingshots to get Keeper off the stage at the party if he goes over 30 minutes. (Slingshots to shoot poker chips at him. Our theme is Vegas).
Ben went with me afterwards to Greenwood Park Mall to get my car worked on. We walked about the mall, I saw Aaron and Dustin from Waldenbooks, caught up with them, met Michael Z. Williamson who was doing a book signing (the guy is AWESOME. We were snarking back and forth about Nickelback, Twilight and a host of other things). Realized not much has changed at the mall.
Went over to Kristi and Larry's afterwards to hang out. If I had realized they lived a block away from Crimson Wench, I would have called her to say Hi and gone over at some point. Had I stayed in Indy, I would have bought a house in that area as well, older houses and just gorgeous. The four of us (Kristi, Larry, Ben and I) watched The Spirit (which I liked...a lot actually, we are considering doing the shirts the clones were wearing for con); and played Fusion Somethingorother on the Playstation. It was a lot of fun; though hard. I won the game that was kinda like hungry hippos. Met Kristi's cats - Purty reminded me of Megan; she is definitely a main coon. Headed home about 11 - made it home by 1.
Sunday sucked. I don't do well with Father's Day to begin with for obvious reasons; and I woke up with a splitting headache and allergies. Ran out to get some stuff for the week and forgot toilet paper, so need to do that today. (lesigh). Got home, set alarm for 3 pm, fell asleep. Woke up at 8 pm. Lovely day just wasted. Ughs.
Today, I have a doc's appointment to look at my bruising and what is going on with that; and have no plans for the night.
I'm not supposed to drive any long distances due to the tires on my car, so soon (hopefully) I will have at least the other back tire replaced, and I can get the front ones done one at a time. By August, I should have all four done.
Gained 3 pounds last week. Scale is moving the wrong way, damnit.
